Black-headed gulls can be very noisy…as I’m sure you’ll agree. They wake with the sun and have to shout their joy in life to the world.

That is fine at this time of year, when the sun is reluctant to show its face much before 8 o’clock. But in summer it’s a different story. They bring much amusement as well as noise though, so I find it easy to forgive them. And when they get their summer plumage, their posturing is something to behold.

Not popular with some people I know, but take some time to watch one for a while and you may be pleasantly surprised.
